2004 SF United Oro
The SF United Oro team was formed in 2010 with girls from several different schools coming together to create a special bond. While the team has evolved over the years, with new players joining, the special bond has remained a constant. This team is welcoming, compassionate, respectful, displays good sportsmanship, and is supportive while being competitive and driven. The team has grown since its conception and now consists of girls spanning seven different schools. Our girls are friends on and off the field, and are very welcoming of new teammates.
Oro, in their inaugural season playing at Gold travel level in the NorCal Premiere league, made the finals in the NorCal State Cup, while missing a 1st place finish in their fall league play by one win. This was achieved in a season where the team had to integrate 11 new players from two different teams due to the national age change mandate, and while adjusting to new style/position formations in games. The following season, the team finished in 1st place, going unbeaten, and was promoted to play at a Premier travel level in league play and in the NorCal State Cup 2017/2018 came in as a runner up in the Premier division, competing against many top Northern California Premier and NPL teams.
SF United Oro have a long history of success with many 1st place finishes in league play, even as they moved up through various travel division levels, leagues, and even playing up against older competition. The team has consistently won numerous prestigious tournament championships, including two consecutive years of winning the CalNorth Association Cup in Silver division against other top teams from the 10 Northern California districts, in the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 seasons. And now, the team is well positioned to continue the same success at the Premier level. The team is currently ranked #68 in Northern California.
The team takes its cue from its coach, whose expectation is to have every girl improve to her maximum potential, with the collective goal of reaching state premier status. “The type of player I always look for is the player that gives 100%, is always hungry and going after the ball, while the skills portion I can teach after”, says coach Mike Rivas. “I teach a mixed style of play with ball control and movement that ends with a fast and direct attack. Having girls from different schools and backgrounds, my goal has always been to a have the team bond to the point where they don't only see each other at soccer but become a family and hang out outside of soccer as well. My methodology is simple. Though I have my style and an idea of how I want to play the game, I always tailor it to my players. I really take the time to get to know each one in order to teach them the best I can. I am a firm believer that I don’t only teach soccer but also prepare them for life, by teaching respect, good sportsmanship, and above all a ‘team comes first’ attitude. Each person learns differently, so I always work on different ways to explain and teach, in order to make sure every player really understands the concept.”
The team has many of it's players playing for their High Schools and continues to play at the Premier Level in the NorCal Premier League.
